1. The service
MJOT ("the Service") is a hosted inference service for Japanese (riichi) mahjong. A client submits a game position as an mjai-protocol event stream; the Service runs a neural-network forward pass and returns a recommended move with ranked candidate actions and probabilities. What you purchase is server-side compute and API access — an API key with a plan-defined request quota — not any third-party software, account, or license.
MJOT is operated by its developer as an individual, based in Taiwan. The same developer builds Akagi, an open-source mahjong client. Akagi works without MJOT (it supports local inference and user-configured endpoints) and MJOT works without Akagi (any client that speaks the documented API can use it).
2. Eligibility
To purchase you must have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement — the age of majority in your jurisdiction, or your legal guardian's consent.
3. API keys
- An API key is a credential for your quota. Keep it secret; anyone holding the key can consume the quota attached to it.
- You may hold multiple keys. Renewing extends the remaining time of the key you renew — keys are never rotated out from under you.
- Reselling or redistributing keys or redeem codes without our prior consent is not permitted.
4. Plans, quotas and fair use
- Each plan defines request-per-minute and request-per-day limits, a concurrency cap, and the number of candidate actions returned. Current values are visible via the API (
GET /v3/key) and on the pricing page. - Do not attempt to disrupt the Service, probe its infrastructure, extract or reconstruct model weights, or circumvent rate limiting or payment flows.
5. Purchases, renewals and taxes
Purchases are handled by our payment processor (currently PayPal); prices are set server-side and shown before you approve. One-time purchases add a fixed term; subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them with the payment processor, and the associated key stays valid until the end of the paid period. Refunds are governed by the Refund Policy, including the statutory withdrawal rights described there.
Prices are in USD. Depending on your jurisdiction and the payment processor used, sales tax, VAT, or similar charges may apply and may be collected by the processor; where a processor acts as merchant of record, it is responsible for tax collection.
6. Availability
We operate the Service on a best-effort basis. Maintenance, capacity limits, or upstream failures can cause temporary unavailability; the API signals overload explicitly and clients are expected to retry with backoff. The Service is provided without an uptime guarantee. Material, extended unavailability of a paid plan is handled under the Refund Policy.
7. AI output
Returned moves and probabilities are statistical model outputs. They carry no guarantee of correctness, optimality, or any particular game result, and the models may change as they are improved (model ids are stable aliases).
8. Ownership
The Service — including its software, models, model weights, API design, and documentation — remains the property of the operator and its licensors. Purchasing quota grants you the right to use the API within your plan; it transfers no intellectual property.
9. Your submitted data
You retain whatever rights you have in the game data you submit. You grant us only the limited right to process each request in order to compute and return the inference result. Submitted positions are not retained and are not used for training — see the Privacy Policy.
10. Third-party software and platforms
The Service analyzes game positions that you submit. It does not access third-party game accounts and does not control third-party software. You are solely responsible for determining whether your use of the Service — and any integration of the Service with third-party software or online services — complies with the applicable rules, terms, and policies of those third parties. MJOT cannot and does not grant permission to use the Service with any third-party platform, and using it in ways a third party prohibits may carry consequences (such as account penalties) that are yours to bear.
11. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or disable keys where reasonably necessary, including for:
- violation of these terms, or abuse of the Service or its payment flows (including chargeback fraud);
- a security compromise, including a stolen or leaked key;
- deliberate circumvention of rate limits, or attacks on the infrastructure;
- requirements of law, regulators, or our payment processor.
Where reasonable we will contact you first at the email associated with your purchase. If we terminate a prepaid service for reasons unrelated to your breach or abuse, we will refund or credit the unused portion.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; changes apply prospectively from the new "last updated" date, and continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance for future use. Changes will not materially reduce the paid features or quota of an existing prepaid term, except where reasonably necessary for security, legal, or regulatory reasons.
13. Liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of the Service is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months preceding the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, and nothing in them deprives you of rights that consumer law in your jurisdiction grants you and that cannot be waived.
